A very Happy Independence Day to everyone.
India celebrated its 79th year of Independence since the British Colonial regime. We have come an extremely long way in identity and development.
However, at the core of gaining independence is freedom. Freedom of choice, Freedom of expression and speech and also, freedom at work.
Just as a country thrives when its citizens have freedom, organizations thrive when employees have the skills to think and operate independently.
Below are some of the common themes to think about, between the freedom in a country and a workplace are as below.
1.Vision: India and its 5 year plans made a big difference in aligning every citizens vision for the nation to move ahead, similarly, workplace needs to have a common vision and the same needs to be sensitized to all, in order to take initiative in that direction
2. Unity and Diversity: India thrives on multi culturalism and so do our organizations. The more diverse our workforce, the more diverse the ideas and more diverse an audience, as end customers
3. Self-Reliance: The vocal for local initiative in India, gave visibility to local artisans and talent. This is a beautiful model to promote internal talent and ideas in problem solving and adaptability
4. Freedom of Expression: Communication is one of the 1st skills that comes to anyone’s mind when we talk soft skills; and hence it applies in all settings. Be it the country, family, business negotiations, workplace deals etc. An organization that encourages open communication is an organization that is going to consistently grow
5. People Orientation: We can talk endlessly about the number of warriors who sacrificed their lives for the country; however, it is important to remember that the country are its people. Similarly, an organization is its employees. Understanding each other, empathy and support for the people is what makes it feel like a family
Soft skills such as communication, leadership, decision making, goal setting etc. add tremendous value in achieving the required growth for self, the organization and in turn, the country itself.
